5 Sure-Fire Ways For Writing Headlines That Grab

Your headline is your first impression. It should stop, fascinate and persuade your readers, or else you risk losing them in the blink of an eye.

Headlines that grab generally perform two important functions. Firstly they should get your readers attention. Then they need to communicate the overall theme of the message without revealing any of the answers. Their mission is to stop your audience in their tracks and intrigue them enough to continue reading.

What is more, your headline should create a sense of curiosity. Curiosity helps lure the reader onto your copy and further into the body text. When you spark your readers curiosity they inevitably will want to learn more.

It is very common for professional copywriters to use newspapers and magazines to research their headlines. Publications such as Cosmo, Vanity Fair and Who Magazine provide a great source of ideas. In addition, they collect any successful ads or headlines in what they call a 'swipe file.' They can then adapt the headlines to suit their own needs.

This is actually a great way for an amateur copywriter to practice writing headlines. Start collecting ads for a swipe file and then replace words in the headline for words that suit your product or service.

Over time as you start looking at ads and website copy from the viewpoint of a copywriter, you will notice the headlines that get used repeatedly. These headlines are the ones that work. Be sure to write these ones down or add them to your own swipe file.

Lets now look at 5 sure-fire triggers that will guarantee your headlines get attention:

1. Curiosity

New!
Introducing!
At Last!

People love the thought of anything new and exciting. These words are perfect for announcing new products. Just note however that it is illegal to claim a product is 'new' unless is has been created with the last 6 months.

2. Calling Out

Dentists!
Home Owners!
Bad Headaches?

These words used at the beginning of a headline specifically call out to your target audience. They are definitely attention grabbing.

3. Customer Benefits

Free from Migraines in 10 minutes!
Buy One Lamp - Get the Second one free!
Learn To Sing in 2 Days with New Method!

Selling the benefits is always a key to successful selling. People may note the features (such as promoting a '4 wheel drive' vehicle) but will be sold on the benefits ('enjoy the freedom and adventure you will experience when you head off-road').

4. The Captivating Question

What If I Could Double Your Profits in 10 Days?
Do You Make These Five Copywriting Mistakes?
What Powerful Antioxidant Will Turn Back The Clock?

This type of headline uses an open ended question. One which your reader is unable to answer with either "yes" or "no". They will immediately want to know what mistake it is, or what product will bring that result. Fantastic for sparking the curiosity factor.

5. The 'How To' Headline

How to Get Rid Of Eczema Naturally
How to Find Out If Your Husband Is Cheating
How to Find Positive Cash Flow Investments in Any Market

People commonly search the internet to find information. Using 'how to' in a headline answers the exact question they are asking themselves. Extremely powerful when you match the right headline to the right target market.

Learning to write headlines that sell is an ongoing process. Try to study and then model successful copywriters continually. Just be sure to always use your own personality and unique style.

The Secrets Behind Writing Killer, Attention Grabbing Headlines

Too often, the value of a great headline is overlooked. In fact, it can be the number 1 reason you're not getting the traffic you're looking for.

Sometimes, I'll read a fantastic article that provides lots of value, but it goes virtually unnoticed because the title is so boring or just turns you away.

That would be like baking the perfect chocolate chip cake. I mean moist and rich, like there's too much chocolate flavor to fit into one cake.

And then you cover it with puke green frosting.

Completely ruins it, huh? The few people who do try it would think it was amazing, but that's not the point of our blog posts right? We want as many people to read them as possible.

So that's the first step: take more than 3 seconds to come up with a good headline.

I have two absolutely favorite models I use to write headlines that figuratively grab passer-byers and force them to read my posts. The first way is to create so much curiosity that people feel compelled to read it.

Let's say that you write a post about a few tricks to building your MLM. Most writers would just say "Build Your MLM Fast" or something like that. Yawn.

How about "Explode your MLM Business Fast with 2 Dumb Little Secrets". Everyone who is in an MLM will think "Do I know those 2 Secrets? I could be missing out!"

My second favorite headline-writing model is to be very specific. Instead of using the headline "Build Your MLM Fast", change it up a little to say "How To Close Prospects On The Phone In 10 Minutes".

It's not a crazy exciting headline, but it's a very specific skill that a lot of people have interest in. You might say that people are interested in building their MLM fast, too, but because the headline is so general, they're expecting some very general, non-specific tips in the article. Specificity will always attract more readers.

One of the best suggestions I have for you is to visit a blog that has headlines that compel you to read. Ask yourself "Why did this headline grab my attention? What words specifically? Did it grab my curiosity? Did it advertise a specific skill?"

Write down what you learn. When you get some ideas on how to do it properly, start jotting down ideas for good headlines. Odds are, you'll throw most of them out, but you'll come across some that will work.

Read your headlines out loud before using them and decide if you would click on it.

For a great resource, go to Google and look for "100 best headlines".

It was compiled by one of the most famous copywriters of all time, Jay Abraham. He gives you 100 great headlines and also a brief explanation as to why they are so great. You'll learn A LOT trust me!

Remember, no matter how fantastic and amazing your content is, you won't get the readers you want until you can draw them in with your headline!

Great Headlines - 8 Ways To Writing Catchy Great Headlines That Grab Attention

Do you know why some sites bring in tons of cash while others don't make a dime? Or why some ads sizzle to success while others hardly impact?

A major reason is the headline.

If you want attention on the Internet such as for selling things you have about three seconds to make your point else lose your visitor. Click... BOOM... gone!

If your headlines are under-performing then it is costing you sales. Guaranteed. So:
* You need a great headline.
* You want a great headline.
* You'd love to have a great headline.

But how do you create a great headline if you're not a professional copywriter?

I thank you for asking.

Here are eight tips that will empower you to write a great headline today.

1. Target others. Review sites of 10 top marketers before you begin to write. Don't take their copy (that is stealing) but draw inspiration from their headlines before you begin. It's amazing how simple and effective this technique is when you need a powerful headline.

2. The shorter the better. It's why phrases or short sayings become so catchy. Five to seven words works well. You can be more expansive in the sub-heading, abstract or opening paragraph once you have your visitors' attention.

3. Use a question as your headline. A great headline stops people stop long enough to consider your site. Asking a question is a great way to do this, if you ask the right one. A tip: The right question is always one that can be answered by your product or whatever you are offering.

4. Use an exclamation point or question mark in your headline. It is important to communicate excitement.

5. Be clear. Inform the reader exactly how your product or offering will assist them.

6. Use a "number of steps" formula. If your product will solve a problem in a certain number of steps, state it. People love simple solutions to their problems.

7. Use a "how to". Like the previous point, a how to is a great headline that is catchy since it presents to readers that there is a solution inside. People search for things to seek solutions to their problem.

8. Use an "in under". When time or money is involved, using an "in under" or "in less than" approach works well. One example is "How to succeed online for less than $100!"

These techniques can assist anyone with writing great headlines for their own needs. Like anything, the more you write, the better you will become.

Writing Headlines That Work

No matter which media you're using headlines are necessary for sales. This is because a headline, if done well, will attract the reader's attention. Once you have their attention you will need to continue to keep their attention, but that is a subject for another place and time.

There are several headline themes that work. When you sit down to write a headline, first decide which theme would work best for the campaign you have in mind. If you're not sure which method will work it is best to try writing a headline using several strategies. Once you have them written test them out on yourself, friends and family to see which one grabbed their attention most effectively.

Since the headline is the most important part of your campaign it will be responsible for about 80% of your success. Here are eight headline themes to get you started on the right track.

Getting Right To The Point - Just basically say it. Don't try to be clever or amusing. Don't use puns; just say it in a straightforward way. Most often used when the offer is a clear solution to the problem or if you have a very strong offer.

It also works well when you have a well-known product or service or if you are promoting a brand name that is very recognized.

Testimonial - Having a testimonial in your headline gives credence to your product by giving an unbiased opinion from a third party. It also lets the reader know that someone else has already bought the product and like the results enough to tell others.

"Easy to learn software. I was up and running in 10 minutes"

"I lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks on this diet"

"It was the best product I ever bought"

There are many ways to compose your headlines and although many of the most successful headlines have been eight words or less doesn't mean yours must be this short. The only thing that is necessary is that your headline has to grab the attention of the person reading. They must be compelled to read on and the best way to ensure this is to make them believe what you are going to tell them is going to make their life better.

Writing sales letters is very complex and even professionals that get paid $10,000 for one don't hit a home run every time. The headline is the most important part of the sales letter but it alone will not make the sale. The headline is only the tip of the iceberg and the body of the sales letter is necessary to make the prospect become a customer.

Writing Headlines For Advertising and Online Marketing

If you are like me you will no doubt struggle writing headlines for your advertising and marketing. I recently attended a very useful seminar on this very topic and picked up some great tips.

As I am writing this off the top of my head I realise how difficult it is to remember the rules that apply to writing great headlines.

So I will consult my notes before I add any more - meaning the next part will be added and edited later, this is all part of the solution.

If you live in the UK I can highly recommend business link for their services including free to attend seminars - they have many of these throughout the year and all over the country - look out for the Internet marketing related seminars in your area.

So when writing headlines follow these rules-

It should be clear in a few seconds to catch attention-

Keep it concise- edit it down-

Make it compelling, what does the reader want and need-

Structure- make it flow from one paragraph to the next-

Keep the paragraphs short- 25 to 30 words are best-

Use dashes not commas- as here

So the next thing is to practice just start writing and see how you go, you may be surprised how easy it comes to you, write as if telling a friend the message you want to get across. Of course you can cheat by using headline writing software, I have recently acquired such a programme with re-sale rights so watch this space I will be making it available soon.

Tips For Writing Articles With Creative Headlines

Have you ever thought about your headlines - Do they pull readers in or scare them away? When writing articles, the most important thing to consider is your headline. With so many articles, and article directories out there, you need to ensure that your article heading is clear and concise, and that it clearly explains what is contained within the article. Good article headlines will lead to read articles, and your content may be used by other website owners. This is a great way to position yourself as an expert and increase targeted traffic through to your website.

Article marketing is considered a cheap and effective way of promoting your website, as distributing articles can drive targeted traffic to your website. When you write a clear concise heading people will click to read your article. If your article is well written, people will click on links in the bio and resource box at the bottom of your article. Writing articles regularly keeps you known in the mind of your readers. Writing good keyword laden headlines can help with Search Engine Optimisation for your website, and for articles published on your blog or website.

If you have trouble thinking of creative headlines, here are some simple tips of good ways to develop positive headlines. One good type of easy to understand headline is the "Top Ten List." Your headline is easy to understand, and people will be more likely to read it. Some examples headlines could be, "Top 10 Tips for Writing Articles," "5 Tips for Quitting Smoking," or "10 Ways to Make Money Online for Little Outlay." The added benefit of a "tips" headline is that your article is very simple to write. You list your 10 tips or whatever number of tips you use, explain each a little, write an introduction, and then a conclusion.

The purpose of this article was to show you the importance of headlines, and how effectively integrate them into your articles to increase traffic to your website. With article marketing, there are many thousands of other competitors so you need to make sure your headline stands out in the clutter. A well thought out, concise headline that clearly explains the content of your article will encourage those searching article directories to click on your article above others, and it will also keep them at your blog longer if they can quickly scan to see the content of your site. Making these necessary steps in your headline writing will lead to your articles being read more often, more visitors to your site, and hopefully more sales.

This article with a lot of information on how to write articles with creative headlines was brought to you by Pierre Smith. Did you find this information useful? Then check out also his website to learn more on writing articles to get more visitors to your site, and to increase your sales.

Tips For Writing Headlines That Work

Are you skimping on your headline? What I mean by this is that, are you not taking your headlines as seriously as you should? The bottom line is that the bulk of your advertising success will boil down to getting your reader to stop and read your ad. And the first thing that they use to determine if your ad is relevant to them, is your headline.

Your headline needs to be able to compel your reader into reading more of your ad. Headlines tell your reader what it is that you're talking about. They won't read more into your ad if they don't think your headline is for them. So it's important that your headline has the ability to make your reader want to read more. Here's another aspect that your headline must have.

- Suspends thought

Have you searched on the internet for something and then you came across a link that looked like it was the exact thing that you were looking for? I know for me, I click on these links almost immediately, not thinking about what the entire article is all about. Your readers will do the same with your headline.

Now it's tough to create a headline like this, but you should know that it's possible. You see before your readers reach your ad, they have all kinds of thoughts in their mind. It's your headline's job to literally "change their mind". Your reader needs to stop thinking about what they were previously thinking about, and totally shift their focus on your ad.

As you can see, your headline plays a pivotal role in getting readers to stop and read the rest of your ad. I can remember that I ran an ad in a publication once, and now in hindsight... the ad was completely garbage. Yet nevertheless, I still got a few people to call and leave their contact information. The headline that I used was geared towards selling a product in my ad, instead of generating leads. If I could go back in time to redo my ad, I definitely would do it.

So what's your headline trying to do? Is it trying to sell a product? Is it geared towards generating a lead? Or do you even have a headline at all? Hopefully you do, because the headline represents over 80% of your entire ad's success. So keep this in mind.

If you can get your headline to command attention, you're almost there. You see all successful headlines have this in common: they command attention and generate response. Make sure your headline is able to do this also.

I simply can't stress how important your headline is. If you're currently running an ad but aren't satisfied with the results, consider tweaking the headline of your ad. One small headline change could mean the difference between "OK" response and world-class response. Test different headlines if your current one isn't working, and continue to run it far into the future.

Good luck with marketing and advertising your business.
